      Tutorials

      Frequency Dependent Transient Processing

The Frequency Dependent Transient Processing provides the option to process only a certain part of the frequency spectrum, making BitterSweet Pro act like a dynamic equalizer driven by Transients and/or Sustain.

      Explained:

When Frequency Range is set from 20 Hz to 20 KHz the processing is performed on the full band, now changing the value of the low cut off frequency turns it into a High shelve dynamic eq and setting the high cut off frequency turns it into a Low shelve dynamic eq, when setting both, it turns it into a peak dynamic eq.

On any case the gain can be adjusted with the Static Gain parameter, and the slope can be set with the Frequency Order parameter, from 6dB per octave to 12, 18 and 24 dB, the higher the Frequency Order is the steeper the slope of the frequency response becomes.

      M/S Stereo Processing Modes

Transients and Sustain can be amplified or attenuated simultaneously or individually, and using a built in M/S Encoder/Decoder the Mid (Center) or the Side (Stereo) parts of the sound can be processed independently.

      • Main – processes using regular stereo signal scheme and it’s the only available mode for multichannel operations
      • Center – engages the internal MS encoder and processes only the Mid channel. After processing, the sound is decoded back to stereo (useful for snare/kick drums)
      • Stereo – engages the internal MS encoder and processes only the Side channel. After processing the sound is decoded back to stereo. (Efficient for panned rhythmic instruments)

      Geek Panel

The Geek Panel, an ”advanced settings” option, provides extended control of the transient processing envelope as well as different options for monitoring of the signal within the plugin.

Dual Preset Slots and Parameter Morphing

The built in preset manager and the preset morphing slider, provides instant and intuitive control of all parameters and controls. In a second, with a simple one-click operation, everything is copied from one of the two preset slots to the other, even during playback.

The two Preset/Parameter slots, A and B, can be loaded with two full set of parameters at the same time, and except for only A/B comparing two sets of parameters, the morphing slider will allow to mix them, and to record the morph with the host automation.

Open up the sound and increase the dynamic impression

On each of the four dynamics processing sections two parameters are provided that are kind of unique to dynamics processing; Dynamics Ratio and Level Independent Detection (L.I.D), using the dynamic range content of the signal and not just the signal levels as standard processors do.

                          Details:

                          • Dynamics Ratio is controlling the amount of auto-ratio determined by the signal dynamics and the manual ratio setting. This literally opens the sound, increases the dynamic impression and keeps some crest by adjusting, in real time, the ratio of every dynamic processing section in regards to both the current ratio settings and the signal content (mainly dynamic range).
                          • Level Independent Detection (L.I.D) controls the amount of auto-threshold determined by the signal dynamics and the manual threshold value, providing processing of the audio signal independently of the sound level and instead in regards to the signal dynamic range.
                          • A Maximum mode can be engaged on the L.I.D control, allowing for processing that accounts for the maximum

Control the Stereo width of your mix

To control the actual Stereo width of the mix a built-in MS encoder/decoder is used to split the stereo-signal in its M and S components in order to control the actual stereo width of the mix.

                            Details:

The MS Width ControlSets the stereo width of the processed signal. A -6 dB value deceases the stereo width. A +6 dB value increases the wideness of the stereo mix but can produce phase issue.

The MS Mode Control – Enables one MS encoding matrix at the input and one MS decoding matrix at the output of the dynamic processing in order to control the stereo width of the mix. When engaged, the side chain is fed by a MS encoded signal that is reflected in the display section. M channel corresponds to the normal left channel. And the S channel corresponds to the normal right channel.

(This feature is only available when two channels (no more, no less) are processed.)

When operating on a multi-channel bus all, up to sixteen in total, channels are processed by default, though the processing can be disengaged for any number of channels leaving the material unprocessed and bypassing the original sound.

                                                Adaptive Processing Control

The adaptive processing algorithm in Syrah can be defined by a Mode setting parameter, which his is one of the most significant controls on Syrah defining how the algorithm automatically tries to adapt the processing to the audio material.

                                                Modes:

                                                • Dynamic Soft
                                                • Dynamic Deep
                                                • Static

By selecting one of the two provided dynamic modes, a range of parameters becomes dynamic and will vary in sync according to the audio analysis, aiming at a result that is closer to the original material.

                                                M/S Stereo Operation

Syrah provides an option for individual processing of the M/S components, a well-known technique often used in mastering to process the stereo image or the center impact, and since Syrah adapts the processing to the audio material, the result will generally match the stereo material more accurately, resulting in a larger variety of possible sound modifications, such as; dynamically increasing the space (room) impression, boost the main center components and similar tasks.
