Protools Audio Bridge is a new feature added in Pro Tools 2022.9, on macOs.

You can use it to route an audio stream from Protools to the FLUX:: Analyzer, instead of using SampleGrabber, when both are running on the same machine. Here is how to achieve the setup, of routing our master output in Protools to the Analyzer.

1 – In Pro Tools Setup / IO Setup menu, go to the ‘Output’ tab, click on the ‘Aux I/O’ button and enable an output to the desired Protools audio bridge bus. As we need a stereo bus in the example, we select the ‘Protools Audio Bridge 2-A’

2 – Go to the ‘Bus’ tab then, unfold the ‘mapping to output’ dropdown list for your default output bus, maintain control ^ key then select the Pro Tools Audio Bridge 2-A. Your main output bus is now routed to both your hardware output and the Pro Tools audio bridge bus.

3- Open FLUX:: Analyzer IO setup menu, and select ‘Protools audio Bridge 2-A’ as an audio device. Also ensure to set both the channel 1&2 inputs, see the screenshot below.

You are all set!

  • Close FLUX:: Analyzer
  • Copy the .pref files from /Documents/Flux/Pure Analyzer System to /Documents/FLUX SE/Pure Analyzer System/Preferences
  • Rename their extension from .pref to .storage

Your legacy preferences should be available in the “Configuration” drop-down list in FLUX:: Analyzer menus (Main, UI, IO).

The f64 FLUX:: Analyzer Essential application file works internally in 64-bit float, while the non-f64 version works internally in 32-bit float. It is a minor difference in precision. The 64-bit version consumes more processing resources.

The 32-bit version is already very precise and should be more than enough for all common everyday applications. The 64-bit version is provided for very specific applications, that sometimes may require extreme detail in the analysis, typically in the research field.

Files installed

Analyzer Essential

Windows

  • FluxAnalyzer-x64.exe
  • FluxAnalyzer-f64-x64.exe

MacOS

  • FluxAnalyzer
  • FluxAnalyzer-f64

Note that the Session Analyzer does not provide the 64-bit version.

The FLUX:: Analyzer Essential / FLUX:: Session Analyzer is a stand-alone application and not a plugin.

It is using a plugin, called SampleGrabber, to broadcast the audio data from the DAW or Host software to the stand-alone application, either on the same computer, localhost, or over the network using a different computer for the Analyzer stand-alone application.

You can read more about this in the FLUX:: Analyzer User Manual (online).

When installing any of the Flux:: stand-alone applications, such as the FLUX:: Analyzer Essential / FLUX:: Session Analyzer, shortcuts can be created by enabling this option under Global Options in Flux:: Center.

On MacOS, the shortcuts are added to the dock; on Windows, the shortcuts are created on the desktop.

When the FLUX:: Analyzer application is installed, the SampleGrabber plug-in will be installed automatically if any of the  AU / VST / AAX plug-in formats are enabled in FLUX:: Center preferences “Install Options“.

If your SampleGrabber plug-in instances are not listed in the source menu in the FLUX:: Analyzer Essential or FLUX:: Session Analyzer application, or if there is no incoming signal from the SampleGrabber plug-in in the Analyzer application, there may be a problem with the network communication between the plug-in and the Analyzer application.

SampleGrabber is not listed in the Analyzer application as a Source (Windows Only)

  • As a first step, press play in the DAW and verify that the sound is playing as intended, the SampleGrabber needs to process audio before it can be recognized by the Analyzer application.
  • If after this the SampleGrabber is still not listed in the Analyzer application as a Source, there may be an issue with the Apple Bonjour network framework, used for the network discovery to find and to list the SampleGrabber instances automatically, as well as for the communication between the SampleGrabber and the Analyzer application.

    How to fix this
    • Close all applications (including your web browser).
    • Open the Windows control panel.
    • Uninstall Flux:: Center and the Apple Bonjour Framework ( if it’s installed ) using the Add / Remove Programs.
    • Install the latest version of FLUX:: Center again, now the installer should prompt and ask if you want to install the Apple Bonjour Framework, which you need to do in order to fix this.

When the installation is completed, everything should now work as intended.

No signs of signal from the SampleGrabber plug-in in the Analyzer application (Windows / macOS)

  • Version Numbers
First of all, please verify that the versions of the Analyzer application and the SampleGrabber plugin are both the latest.

    Finding the version number
    • To find the version number in the SampleGrabber plugin, open the plugin, click on the small cogwheel button on the plugin user interface, and the version number is displayed there. The current correct version number should follow the format: V3.5.29.46205.
    • To find the version number in the Analyzer application, simply read it at the top of the open application, in the title bar. The current correct version number should follow the format: 1.10.4.46205.
  • Network Settings
If you still experience problems connecting the SampleGrabber plugin and the Analyzer application, please check that both the source system where the SampleGrabber plugin is inserted and the destination system where the Analyzer application is installed, are connected over the same network and that they both have a valid network configuration.

Both systems need to be configured with an IP network, either through a DHCP server or using manual network configuration.
  • Firewall Settings
If there are no signs of signal in the Analyzer application after selecting one of the available SampleGrabber plugins, please check your firewall settings and verify that both the Analyzer application and your host software are authorized for any network communication, or specifically, for UDP access from port 46000 to 46064.
